Not only does the Orion SkyQuest XX14g GoTo Truss Tube Dobsonian feature incredibly large 14-inch diameter optics, however its Orion-designed collapsible GoTo Dobsonian base and truss tube make the XX14g conveniently portable, since you can break the whole telescope down into bite-size part pieces. The optical tube and base both separate into smaller sized components– without tools. When broken down, whatever fits quickly into even a compact vehicle, for the trip to your preferred dark-sky website. Stability of the put together XX14g Dobsonian base is enhanced by its 1-inch thick composite wood base panels, which are laminated with water-resistant black melamine. GoTo and tracking motors are pre-installed on the base panels, making assembly good and simple. Given that all base and truss tube hardware is captive, you don’t have to worry about leaving a screw behind after a long night of seeing in the field. WARNING! When using a truss tube Dobsonian for solar observing, constantly utilize a Light Shroud and an appropriately sized solar filter. Ensure there are no gaps in between the Shroud and the telescope where direct sunshine can reach the mirror, otherwise eye injury or damage to the telescope can occur. Prior to utilizing any telescope for solar observing, set up protective covers on all optical parts. Glancing through an uncovered optical system can trigger irreversible eye damage. Constantly set up protective caps on all optical instruments if overlooked throughout daytime hours.
